Wendell W. Calhoun age 71 of Revelo, Kentucky died Sunday, February 5, 2012 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. Funeral services were held Thursday, February 9, 2012 at 12:00 pm at the McCreary County Funeral Home with Rev. Rufus Hughes and Bro. Jason Vaughn officiating. Burial followed in the Lower Hickory Grove Cemetery.
He was born July 30, 1940 in Gearheart, Kentucky to Andrew Calhoun and Mahala Cook Calhoun. Wendell was a member of the Old Beech Grove United Baptist Church and was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy, having served in the Vietnam War.
His father, mother, brothers, Lewis Lloyd, Arnold, Alfred Bradley, and Amos Edward Calhoun, sisters, Bertha Morgan, Mazie Minnier and Alma Mauier, and step-daughters, Brenda Ann Hayes, Betty Jean Hayes and Lisa Renee Hayes precede him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Jewelene Dobbs Calhoun of Revelo, Kentucky; daughters, Roberta Davis of Stearns, Kentucky, Julie Rena Capley of Whitley City, Kentucky, and Bridgett Ninette Dixon of North Carolina; step-sons, Bruce Denver Hayes of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee, and Phillip Howard; step-daughter, Belinda Bowling of Jamestown, Tennessee; a sister, Betty Jean Stephens; and 7 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, and 13 step-great-grandchildren.
The family would like to give special thanks to a special niece, Sharon Meadows, who stood by the family and helped so much during Wendellâs illness.
