Velma J. Coomer age 86 years of Lexington, Kentucky died Sunday, October 23, 2011 at the Hospice Care Center in Lexington, Kentucky. Funeral services were held Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 8:00 pm with Rev. Jay Constant officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery in Southgate, Kentucky.
She was born June 10, 1925 in Blue Diamond, Kentucky to Winfred Claxton and Elizabeth Anburgey Claxton. Velma was formerly a member of the Hayes Creek Church of God and was a homemaker.
Her parents, husband, Leonard Coomer to whom she was married 37 years, son, Robert Coomer, daughter, Lenora Sue Turner, and a brother, Frank Claxton precedes her in death.
Survivors include her sons, Elmer Gary Coomer and Michael Coomer, both of Pine Knot, Kentucky; daughters, Jimmie Coomer of Somerset, Kentucky and Angela Howell and her husband, Roscoe, of Richmond, Kentucky; 16 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
