Richard Harold Sumner

Richard Harold Sumner, age 73 years, of Whitley City, Kentucky, son of the late Edwin and Nora (Perry) Sumner, died Thursday, October 21, 2021 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, Kentucky.

He was born in McCreary County, Kentucky on July 15, 1948 the son of the late Edwin and Nora (Perry) Sumner. Richard was a member of the Taylor Ridge United Baptist Church, had retired as a logger, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Geraldine Hicks; brother, Donald Sumner; nephew, Shawn Sumner; niece, Patricia Hicks; and brother-in-law, Arvil Lee Hicks.

Survivors include his brother, Bobby (Ruth) Sumner of Whitley City, Kentucky; nieces, Debbie Bell and Joyce Roberts; nephews, Michael (Donna) Sumner, Scotty (Susie) Hicks, Ronnie Hicks; sister-in-law, Linda Sumner all of Whitley City, Kentucky; 2 great nephews; 6 great nieces; 5 great-great nephews; and 9 great-great nieces.

Funeral services will be held 12pm Monday, October 25, 2021 at the McCreary County Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Taylor Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 6pm Sunday, October 24, 2021 at the Funeral Home.
