Opal Stephens, age 95 years, of Whitley City, Kentucky died September 15, 2013 in Somerset, Kentucky at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. Funeral services were held Thursday, September 19, 2013 at 8pm in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Elder Nolan Johnson and Elder Steve Hunt officiating. Entombment was in the Pine Knot Cemetery.
She was born in Parkers Lake, Kentucky on September 28, 1917 the daughter of the late Cornelius and Ethel (Roberts) Garland. She was a homemaker, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, a Kentucky Colonel, a Pillar in the Community; she enjoyed Life, Gardening, Cooking, and Sewing.
Her parents; husband, Raymond âPigâ Stephens; sons, R.L. Stephens, Billy Byron Stephens, and Carl Edward Stephens; brother, Wilford Garland; sisters, Lena Duncan and Kathleen Garland; and 22 other brothers and sisters, precede her in death.
Survivors include her sons, Michael Stephens and wife, Paula of Whitley City, Kentucky, Marcus Stephens and Margaret of Monticello, Kentucky, Roger Stephens and wife, Doris of Whitley City, Kentucky; daughters, Carol Creekmore and husband, Garry of Whitley City, Kentucky, Brenda Martin and husband, Billy of Pine Knot, Kentucky, Mary Ann Martin and husband, Lonnie of Ocala, Florida, and Marilyn Hansford and husband, Harold of Whitley City, Kentucky; and two brothers, Clifford Garland and wife, Janet of Montana and Earl Garland, three sisters, Agusta, Lucile and Phylis. 28 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren also survive.
