Melvin Cox, age 76 years, of Whitley City, Kentucky died August 6, 2010 in Somerset, Kentucky at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. Funeral services were held Monday August 9, 2010 at 1pm in the McCreary County Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Patrick and Rev. Alan Coffey officiating. Burial was in the McCreary Memorial Gardens. THE FAMILY WILL RECEIVE FRIENDS AFTER 6PM SUNDAY AUGUST 8, 2010 AT THE FUNERAL HOME. He was born in Duck Run, Kentucky on April 18, 1934 the son of the late Floyd and Zora (Brassfield) Cox. He was a retired truck driver, had served in the US Army, a member of the Orie S. Ware Masonic Lodge #874, and Indian Creek United Baptist Church where he was baptized March 22, 1959 and ordained a Deacon July 15, 1978. His parents, brothers Elvin Cox, General Cox, and John Cox, s brother in law Jim Wyatt and six infant brothers and sisters. Survivors include his wife Shelby Cox, daughter Freda Neal and husband Allen of Whitley City, Kentucky, brother Chester Cox and wife Debbie of Whitley City, Kentucky, and sisters Joyce Wyatt of Whitley City, Kentucky Mae Ball and husband Norman and Erma Ball and husband Leonard both of Stearns, Kentucky and Bernice Young of Burnside, Kentucky. Grandchildren Jason Spradlin and wife Ashley and Amanda Neal and fianc Raymond Little, great grandchildren Kynder and Kase Spradlin, and nineteen nieces and nephews also survive. McCreary County Funeral Home entrusted with the arrangements.
