Maxine Phillips

Geredia "Maxine" Phillips (nee Jones), 83, was a resident of Oberlin, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday, January 7, 2017, at Welcome Nursing Home in Oberlin. She was born September 17, 1933 in Stearns, Kentucky.

Maxine had made her home in Oberlin for over 64 years. Her greatest love was her husband, children and grandchildren and nothing brought her greater joy than the time she spent with them. Maxine was employed as a nurses aid at Welcome Nursing Home in Oberlin for 25 years before retiring in 1998. She was a member of Grace Old Fashioned Church in South Amherst, where she and her late husband served the Lord with her musical abilities and sang with the Sun Rise Gospel Quartet. Maxine considered the Rock Springs United Baptist Church in Kentucky as her "home church". Her hobbies included gardening, painting and quilting.

Survivors include her daughter, Geredia "Carol" Clark (Ken) of Oberlin; her grandchildren, Leesa Clark, Jaynee Clark, Tamee Forthofer, Jordan Phillips and Brendon Phillips; her great-grandchildren, Alleya Johnson, Donald Johnson and Tony Forthofer; her great-great-grandchildren, Kingston Gaines and Sophia Stevenson.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Reverend France Andie Phillips on March 21, 1993; her son, Christopher Phillips on July 7, 2016; her brothers, Marvin, Lester and Roland; her sisters, Addie Jones, Carrie Jones, Leary Copper and Gertie, Bonnie Abott and Mertie Abott; and her parents, George Clinton and Hette Lee Jones.

Services will be held Thursday at noon at the Rock Springs United Baptist Church.

McCreary County Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements for Maxine Phillips.
