MARTHA LOU RICHMOND

Martha Lou Richmond, age 80, of Pine Knot, Kentucky, passed away Sunday, April 16, 2017, at the Jean Waddle Care Center in Somerset, Kentucky.

She was born in Pine Knot, on February 27, 1937, to the late Harley and Susie C. (King) Taylor.

Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Clinton Jay Richmond, and a son, Britton Richmond. 

She had five surviving children: Teresa (and James) Ball of Whitley City, Kentucky, Liz (and Wayne) Shannon of Pine Knot, Calvin (and April) Richmond of Pine Knot, Beth (and Lonnie) Gibson of Pine Knot, and Brock (and Ann) Richmond of Pine Knot.

She had a very special friend, Deola Shannon whom she considered her sister.  She had 12 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren and one on the way.

Martha was a homemaker and worked as a cook for the McCreary County Schools.  She made many friends while she worked at the school.  She loved the Lord and her family was her greatest accomplishment.  She loved each one of her children in her own special way.  She was kind, feisty and could keep them all in line with that “look” that they will never forget.  She was an awesome mom who encouraged her family to go to school and make the most of their lives.   She was the happiest when preparing her huge meals.  She loved cooking, fishing, quilting, painting, and crocheting.  She loved her country and was a dedicated supporter of the military.

Martha will be sadly missed by everyone who knew and loved her.  They are blessed to have such wonderful memories to cherish.  Our loss is heaven’s gain.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCreary County Funeral Home with Bro. Bruce Dixon officiating.  She was laid to rest at the King Meadows Cemetery.  Visitation was Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 9:00 at the funeral home.
