Jimmy Russell Phelps

Jimmy Russell Phelps, age 66 years, of Whitley City, Kentucky died Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at the UK Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky.

He was born in Mt. Victory, Kentucky on November 4, 1958 the son of the late Charley Mason Phelps and Fay (Ratliff) Phelps. Jimmy had been a lineman for RECC and was a member of the Mt. Victory Baptist Church. Being outdoors, coon hunting, but most especially riding horses were his favorite past times.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, John Phelps and Bill Phelps; sisters, Donna New and Cheryl Meece; and a son in law, James Tucker.

Survivors include his wife, Etta (Silvers) Phelps of Whitley City, Kentucky; daughters, Paula Sumner and husband, Rusty, Kasie Phelps, and Karla Phelps all of Whitley City, Kentucky; brothers, Jerry Phelps of Kansas and Charley Phelps of Stearns, Kentucky; sisters, Louise Stogsdill of Somerset, Kentucky, Jean Hutcherson of Frankfort, Kentucky, Fayrene Addington of Blur Ridge, Georgia, and Barbara Deloch of Somerset, Kentucky; grandchildren, Aaron Phelps (Brooke) and Blake Phelps; and special friends, Jeff and Alice Craig and Jamie Stephens.

Funeral services will be held 1pm Saturday, April 12, 2025 at the McCreary County Funeral Home with Bro. Damon Stevens officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Pigeon Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 11am Saturday at the Funeral Home.
