James Estel Daugherty, age 84 years, of Stearns, Kentucky died February 21, 2014 in Somerset, Kentucky at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at 11am in the McCreary County Funeral Home with Rev. Rufus Hughes officiating. Burial was in the Angel Cemetery.
He was born in Cross Roads, Kentucky on December 31, 1929 the son of the late Arthur and Mittie (Ross) Daugherty. He was a coal miner and a member of the Old Beech Grove United Baptist Church.
His parents; wife, Fayrene (Watters) Daugherty; daughter, Wanda Darlene King; brothers, Harold Daugherty and Christopher Daugherty; and sister, Truie Strunk precede him in death.
Survivors include his daughters, Melissa Phillips and husband, Ernie of Stearns, Kentucky and Marlene Hurlburt and husband, Scott of Richmond, Kentucky; son in law, Tim King of Stearns, Kentucky; brothers, Burl Daugherty, Freddie Daugherty, and Joe Daugherty all of Whitley City, Kentucky; grandchildren, Eben Norvell, Ariel Norvell, Ian Norvell, Cortney Phillips, Codey Phillips, Corey Phillips, Joey and Ashley Hurlburt Fothergill, Trenton Hurlburt, and Cali Hurlburt; and special friends, David, Debbie, Nathan, Amanda, Allison, and Nicholas Wesley.
McCreary County Funeral Home entrusted with the arrangements.
